Trying to figure out if my current laptop will run Catia V5 for training and small projects? I have a Toshiba Satellite with the following specs:
Vista Home Prem
AMD Turion 64 x2 2GHz dual core
3GB Ram
250 GB HD
ATI Radeon x1250 graphics

Thanks for any input

Yes, you *should* be able to run Catia fine on your laptop. However, your mileage may vary. A potential obstacle you may find is that your graphics system is not a professional cad card, and is not supported or certified by DS. You may find yourself experimenting with different video drivers to get the best stability.

My personal laptop is a 3 year old Dell D610 with an ATI Radeon X300 graphics card. It works fine, is very stable, and handles small to moderate size V5 models just fine. It's not terribly fast though.

About Vista, I know Catia R18 SP4 and higher is officially supported on Vista 64-bit, I don't know all about the various Vista flavors though.

When you run Catia on a non-certified configuration, you will probably be fine most of the time, but that's not guaranteed and there won't be technical support. So there is the balance between paying for workstations versus dealing with downtime from technical issues. Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Mark
