Hi,
I was just wondering if there is a walk through for starting out on surfacing. I currently have a surfaced part I need to elaborate on, ex. extend sufaces or create new surfaces from the existing. I thought that this would be easy with my v4 background. Is it nessecary to have a complete wireframe to create surface, and do you have to be in 2d to create the wireframe. Any helpful hints or insite would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advanced.

In V5 it is not necessary to have a complete wireframe to create surfaces any more than it was V4. A good V4 background in Surf2 and Law will equip a user to quickly take to V5 surfacing, the underlying logic and algorithms of curve and surface generation have been cleaned up and re-packaged so that a much simpler process is available.
The wireframe does not have to be built in 2D, that would be very limiting. Sketcher has been improved but it not compulsory to use it, the work can be done in 3D either on or off supports. The term 'Support' refers to a plane or surface.
V4 surfacing meant that Curvature continuity from one surface to another required quite a lot of work whereas V5 provides it as an option, as is Tangent continuity. Concentrate on becoming proficient in the use of Sweep, Loft and Blend surface tools in the Generative Shape Design workbench, the slick tools are for later on. The importance of the Specification Tree will become apparent especially when modifications are required, the associativity of elements enables alterations to be achieved without extensive re-building work.
Forget V4 when starting V5, to keep comparing how something was done before will only slow down the learning process. The Help Documentation is excellent, it is almost a tutorial, follow that for curves and surfaces. If possible start the models that are to be worked on from scratch in V5 rather than mess about with old ones, bad habits are less likely to be picked up.

Thank you Kapitan!
The problem seems to be that the surfaced part I am working with. For some reason I cannot draw lines or add surfaces or modify them, but, If I open a new file I can do whatever I want. Also could you briefly explain the picks, for example support?,direction?and other picks nessecary to extrapolate a surface. I feel if I understand better what catia is asking me for I well be able to produce what I need. Thank you again in advanced.

It sounds as though you have a model that has no history.
Some questions :

1) Where did the model originate and how did it arrive in V5 ?
2) On the Specifiication Tree, are any of the icons dimmed, is there anything in NoShow ?
3) Can you construct any Boundary or Intersection Curves on the surfaces ?
4) Do you want to send me the model to look at ?
If so then email to otosofor@yahoo.com explaining exactly what is required.
5) Have you got the on-line Help Documentation stuff ?

I figured out what was going on. I made some planes and points and extrapolated some surfaces, but , they would not display until i double clicked them in model tree to change there properties. So I came to the conclusion that perhaps the default layer was not displaying or something along those lines. So I simply clicked on one of the planes I had created - then went in edit at top of screen and to be honest I dont remember exactly what I selected uder edit but it activated all of the work I had done and allowed me to see all the work I was doing from the point on. I am currently at my day job where we only use pro-e, so I cannot look in the menu to tell you which item I selected. At my night job I work on Catia. Perhaps I will get back to you to let you know tonight, that is if you don not already know what I might of selected. By the way I would just like to tell you that you have by far been the greatest help on eng-tips.com (not that other people did not help me). I just want to thank you again for your help and I hope that other people appreciate you and other people that help on this site as much as I do.
