I have a large Product (960 Parts) that I need to extract views for to show a systems installation. I have tried Exact views, CGR views, Approximate views and even Rastar views all with little or no success. I cannot seem to get more than 3 views before I crash or get a red "X" in the view. We are running Windows 2000 (unfortunately) on a Dell box with 2 gigs of RAM. This could be done on V4 with some piecing together.

Have you tried doing a "Send-To" on your project? We found multiple projects linked together that weren't supposed to be. When these links were eliminated drawings worked faster and not near as many red X's.

Hope this helps!

Yes I have previously tried doing a send-to to another directory and everything does seem to work better but it doesn't get me anymore views. Products and kinematics are more stable when all parts are in one directory. We are hoping all of our assy's and sub-assy's will be more stable when we introduce smarteam. Thanks for the help.

I've seen drawings created in WinXP that could not be done in Win2K. From what I hear R14 is suppose to be better for this kind of stuff.

A co-worker reminded me of a work around that usually worked. Load your product and delete all but a part, do not save!!! Create a new drawing, define all views, section cuts, etc. and save the drawing. Quit the product and restart Catia. Load the product in cache mode then load the drawing. Update each view individually. We were told that creating a drawing is harder than updating a drawing. We also use a memory manager and srub the memory if it starts getting low while updating.

HI,

For us it is the opposit, updating in harder than creating views...

I made some test with R12 / R14 / Win 2000 / XP.

I would go with R14 on XP... When I could make 3 views on R12/Win2000, 7 with R12/XP, I made more then 15 with R14/XP (2 gig ram).
