Hi, I have a 3DXML file of an assembly with a cylindrical shape. This was provided to me like this and I have no access to the Catia Product or Part files.

I would like to make a section cut slice of 1/4 of the cylinder, as if one was cutting a 1/4 slice of a cheese. I used the sectioning tool, but I can only obtain a half section cut.

I also selected the option for using a box as the sectioning tool, but the problem is that when I select 1/4 of the cylinder, with the box, the tool removes everything else and leaves only a 1/4 "slice", when I wanted exactly the opposite (remove the selected 1/4 "slice").

Is there a way to edit the behaviour of this tool to produce a 3/4 view of a cylinder body?

Thanks in advance to anyone who answers!

Is the section plane big enough? if not drag the edges so it covers the whole section at least. Regarding the section cut have you tried "reverse direction"? should be found under the positioning tab in the sectioning definition window.

Hi, and thank you for answering!

Yes I can drag the section plane so that I can obtain in the secondary window the 2D view of the intersection between the section plane and the assembly. But in the 3D view if I activate the volume cut half of the body is cut by the plane instead of just 1/4, since CATIA considers the plane infinite and not just with the width that I defined.

With respect to using a box as a sectioning tool I can indeed select 1/4 of the cylinder, but once again when I activate the volume cut, it removes the other 3/4 of the cylinder and keeps just the 1/4 volume selected by the box in the 3D view. Selecing "reverse direction" only mirrors the box to another 1/4 of the cylinder with the same results described previously.

The problem I am facing is that I want exactly the opposite of what the box sectioning tool does. That is, I wanted the volume selected by the box to be cut, so that I get in the 3D view the cylinder volume with a 1/4 slice removed. Is there a way to get this result with the sectioning tool?

Thank you once again for your response and I am sorry if I did not expain well the problem.

Are you using section plane or section slice? Could you upload some pictures?

Hi, I have uploaded some pictures of the results I'm having. When I select the section box (first picture), I can intersect it with only 1/4 of the volume, but when I activate the volume cut (second picture) I obtain just the selected 1/4 volume, but I would like to cut away this 1/4 volume and obtain as a result in 3D, the assembly without the volume selected by the sectioning box.

I would like to know if it is possible to configure this tool to cut the selected volume with the sectioning box instead of keeping it as it does by default?

I also tried using the "Pocket" feature from the "Assembly Features" menu, but it does not recognize 3DXML as a solid body and thus does not let me create a profile and cut through the assembly.

Thank You!

Aaah 1/4 of a revolved shape, don't think you can do it in one shot, the section cut is like boolean remove. Don't have a station to try it on but try making two 1/2 cuts to get the 1/4.

Why do you need to make that cut? if it's for a pic then there is a function in the drafting module that does that.

Got another idea, also not tested, make a standard section cut, plane, so get 1/2 cut and then move the edge of cutting plane to get the 1/4.
