Hi,

In order to see big assemblies, it is possible to use CATIA cgr extension. But I wonder (approximately) how many parts can be viewed at a time with a common computer (2Go RAM, 3,6GHz) ?

Thank you

When I was at Boeing, we used to see most of the 787 with cgr files and DMU Navigator. I'm not sure what the computer specs were, but I don't recall anything special.

Did you see it all (with the inside, and pipes...), or just the major shapes and pieces ?

Do you have an idea of the compression between a catpart and the cgr file ?

@ Jackk :Thank you for your quick response !

Hi,

As far as I know, you can load in DMU few thousands (up to 4, but its very possible to be wrong). If you will search the forum for cgr files, you will have a complete answer regarding the properties of the cgr files.

Another solution is but only to view your work.

Regards
Fernando

I will continue to search infomations on .cgr ... as soon as i can make a research (it's not possible "for the moment")

I have already tried the 3DXML Viewer, but i would like to know what is possible with CATIA itself.

Thank you

We have found the practical limit on a basic workstation (Power3 Model 275, 4gb RAM) to be around 4-6000 parts (depending on part complexity). The absolute limit is around 8000, but you can't do much with the workstation.

Some 64 bit testing we have done (dual core amd processor, 8gb RAM, FireGL graphics card) showed that we can easily pull up 12-18000 parts, but the video card starts to struggle. I'd like to try again with a Quadra 4500, but haven't had the chance.
