Hi

I'm designing surface equipment for marine envrionment. I working out the CE requirement as part of design process. I included EMI and possibly LVD since it contains AC/DC PSU, but I try take it outside so I can avoid LVD testing requirement.

I have lithium phosphate battery to be fitted inside the box, it is much safer battery than lithium-ion with known history of explosive and fire and massive recall.

I'm trying to work out if there is CE requirement affecting the lithium phosphate battery in term of charging and discharging, so I can address the design and avoid risk of non-compliance to CE.

Check the directives 2006/66/EC if you haven't done that so far. That is the EU battery directive.

After quick read, this directives 2006/66/EC is more related to waste/disposal, rather than safety of the equipment. I feel this is document/operation/support issue rather than design. I believe Lithium and Phosphate is not toxic (unlike lead/acid).

I wish to establish if there is requirement within CE. So far I'm only using EMI directive for the CE. LVD does not apply because the voltage is less than 75VDC.

Has anyone actually design a equipment with lithium battery, I very much like to hear their experience involving CE testing.
