I am studying for the certified solidwors associate and wanted to know what is the best way to determine the origin of an assembly/part in the beginning to get the correct center of mass after the part drawing and assemble together or where I can go to find out.

Thanks

Just click on the assembly Origin before you see the center of mass. The CofG is calculated from there.

Have you read faq731-376 to make the best use of Eng-Tips Forums?

The test questions tell you where the origin of your part should be if it matters for the question.

Even with correcting the origin as shown on the problem, my problem is the center of mass is always wrong. But I get the overall mass and volume of the assembly correct when doing the practice questions. Any suggestion on getting the correct center of mass .

When I double check the questions asked, the overall mass of the assembly and volume of the assembly are correct. It is the center of mass location I am getting wrong.

Then you are modeling your part with either the incorrect origin or the incorrect orientation. Check to make sure that all of the axes are pointing in the same direction as the example part.

Why not model up a cube and check the centre of mass etc vs a hand calculation?
