Dear Folks;

I created a simple text based centerline symbol by using a small letter C and large letter L and then grouping them together. I was wondering if it can be saved for future use and dragged into the drawing as required.

I'm using SW2005 SP0

Best Regards

Why not just use the already created symbol in solidworks?

It seems like alot of unnessary work.

Look in SW Help for "symbol" or "symbol library"

Once the symbol is created as a note then you can save it as a favorite and then bring it into the drawing any time you want.

In SW2005 you can create a folder in the Design Library and store special symbols, standard notes, and blocks. Then you simply drag and drop when you need them.

To add a something to the folder you just drag and drop it the first time. I have found that in blocks that I have used model properties it associates those as well when you drop it into the new drawings. You it on castings quite a bit.

One thing I would like to see...

In UniGraphics, it was possible to embed custom symbols into files and templates, so there was no dependency on external libraries.

Just a thought....

Per drafting standards, CL is no longer used. Drawing a centerline is implide as the center.

Blocks, which used to be called custom symbols before they went with the Acad term, are stored in the file like UG.

Then there are the text symbols that come with Solidworks located in the Solidworks folder.

Some replies mention centerline symbol is not current. I agree, however there's still a couple times I like to use it. When I make inspection prints for the optical comparator and want someone to use the center of a part or even more often, when there's several ordinate dimensions close to each other, and some go to features, and others go to holes or arcs. by putting the CL symbol next to the ordinate hole dimensions, the machinist can more easily see which dimensions go to which features without getting the straight edge out and trying to line up the dimensions to the features.

the simplist way to get the symbol in a drawing is type the following in a note OR dimension:
<MOD-CL>

or, right click the note, select properties, click on "add symbol", (modifying symbols library), select "centerline",
click OK
click OK
