centre of rotation with spaceball

Hi All
I have just started using a spaceball 4000flx.
How do I set the centre of rotation?

I set it using MB3 'set rotate point' then pick a point.
The mouse picks up that point and rotates around it no problem.
However the spaceball keeps on rotating around some predefined point.

Can anyone help?

Theere is a button under preferences I think called 3d input devices, it has a dialog that pops up and you can set rotation point with it
