Dear forummembers, please advise a rule of thumb or comment the design or a reactor below.

We have a reactor where catalyst bed is supported by ceramic balls bed:
- catalyst shape is cilinders OD=6mm, H=4mm
- support bed are 2 layers of ceramic balls OD=6&19mm

What do you think? Are 6mm balls edequate for supporting 6x4mm catalyst or should smaller/bigger balls be used? Do you know a rule of thumb or a common practice concerning this parameter?

ask the catalyst company, it must be in the technical proposal.

3/4 in should be a good choice, but the catalyst manufacturer shall give you the advice
