Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knows of any concrete requirements to certification requirements for mechanical handling equipment that is of foldable or of collapsable designs.

For instance, do I need to re-certify an A-Frame Gantry if I take it down after I reassemble it? Same would go for mobile Floor Cranes and Mobile Jib Cranes.

Thanks

I would take a look at something in the ASME B30 series. I'm not sure exactly which ones because I don't have access to all of them and I'm not sure exactly what your applications are.

Based on my limited knowledge of cranes, you have to re-certify them after changing anything related to the structure. At least where I'm at, we have to re-certify jib cranes if we unbolt them from the floor and move them. I guess it would depend too on what exactly you're doing to the equipment. Folding/collapsible designs seem completely different than something you have to take apart and reassemble.

I also might just call up a local crane shop. They could probably tell you what kind of certification you might need as well as be a qualified party to do such a certification.
