Dear All,

I am working on the simulation of dynamic impact loading. I can't find that what is the relation of CFN, CFS, and CFT with each other?

1. Contact force due to contact pressure (CFN)
2. Contact force due to friction (CFS)
3. Total Contact force due to contact pressure and friction (CFT).

Can someone help me in finding the relation that how 1 and 2 get combined to give 3? Is it a vector addition or some other criteria is being followed?

Each of these variables is available in 3 global directions so CFN and CFS can be directly summed to form CFT. Run a simple contact benchmark to see how this works in practice.

Thanks for your reply. In my case when I check CFN and CFT, they are the same. The effect of CFS is not added as directly. What can be the reason for this?

Plot CFS components and see what their values are. Maybe they are very low and you don’t see the effect on CFT.

To make comparison easier you can use Create XY Data —> Operate on XY data tool to add CFS and CFN data for a given direction. Then plot this against CFT for the same direction. You will see that the curves overlap.

CFS is zero when no friction is defined. No shear forces without friction.

Thanks fr your reply.

I have defined Friction coefficient and CFS is not zero in this case
