Hello

I design a chain conveyor to pull 12 carts that linked together. the conveyor installed at the end of line and pull all of the linked carts. The schematic of this as attached. I consider a tension at the end of conveyor but it didn't worked correctly. Now i want to know how i can solve the problem. I think that the position of tension is not correct. The chain conveyor used in the assembly line. the worker installed parts on the cart.

What did not work?

The tensioner needs to restrain the tension of the returning chain strand.

What is the arrangement at "B"?

Why is the tensioner at "B" and not at the opposite end from the drive?

Thanks for your attention.
In this system when the conveyor push the skids, the chain strand between pusher dog and drive sprocket is under tension. So the spring is located at the end of conveyor don't sense this tension. Moreover i think the chain strand at the rerun and end of conveyor loose.
As you are mention, i think the best way is used tension at the drive station. But given that at this position we have bearing block, drive sprocket and the other part i don't know how i can do that. So if you have a suggestion please help me.

Also need sensors for the droop on the chain in the catenary for maintenance indication with too much droop of chain.

Could add wheels to the chain at different angles to reduce friction and less horsepower needed to pull the chain? Put the chain in a channel of very low friction material.

The tension can be tightened two ways.
1 Use a cylinder to move the head pulley while looking at the droop in chain in an analog type of measurement. This is more expensive.
2 Design a takeup assembly as the chain comes around the bottom before the catenary to adjust tension. This is less expensive.

Also need some way to tell each chain link so that you know how to count the chain as the machine moves or put an encoder on the tail sprocket.
 
What Doesn't work?


Does the "pull" in the chain over-ride the take-up spring tension and then the chain jumps around the sprocket at "B".

Answer:
Remove the Spring and have a simple screw type chain tension device at "B"

What is the total weight of carts, including load being carried,
what is the specification of the chain
what size sprockets are you using
what is the size of the drive motor
what is the technical details of the transmission arrangement.

Your concept is a workable design (similar to a caterpillar drive in overhead chain system), but it seems that something is missing.
