Hello,

I am new using Abaqus, I need to know how to change the properties of a specific element. First I calculated the velocity response of a normal beam but now I need to decrease the elastic properties of a certain element and run the analysis again. I've tried just modeling the beam in 3 different parts, one of which is element size, then I assigned a different material with the wanted properties to it. The results are good in most part of the beam but the readings on the first 5 nodes next to the fixed point are wrong. Hope anyone can tell me what I am doing wrong or what is the best way to achieve this.

Thanks

Hi
If you want to change properties in different steps then one method is to first make separate elements of the same part, assign each of them with the different materials using fields as, field '1' as the first material and field '2' as the second. After that call them in the keywords editor using

*field, variable=1, your element name here, field number here

hope this helps
Regards

Thank you for you answers, I am running just 2 steps and the, one for frequency and other for modal dynamics to get the velocity response. The model doesn't change, it starts with just one element with different properties from the rest, this is to simulate a given damage from the beginning of the test.

I checked about dependencies but I could not find how they work in the interactive version, to try this must I use an input file?
