One of the guys running the CMM in QA asked me if we could change the position of the x,y,z zero of the part. Apparently it's easier for them to work with. How could this be done?

thanks

Wow thanks, that was easy

As solid7 says, a transform is needed. For the new axis system click Insert => Axis System. This shows the Axis creation box, and in front of it is the transform box (Axis to Axis).

Although, I thought the CMM Controller might have had some facliity to do it - if the QA guy was given the transform components.

Yeah was so strait forward in Catia. The guy in QA is just learning to use the CMM so I'll give him all the help I can.

Funny thing but in 5 years of CATIA use I really never had to use this function.

I've used CMMs before and translation was included in even the DOS based systems.

Thanks again,

That's not unusual, Dean. Ironically, I was about 5 years into Catia V4 before I ever knew - or needed to know that it existed. And it was also CMM data related.

I used to do some MM4 programming, and I used a lot of this type of stuff with the raw data. Since MM4 had no graphical interface with the CAD data, I had to rely upon theoretical axes, and methods of reconciliation. So I used it a lot in that context.

Anyway, glad that helped. Take care, and good luck.
