Changing/Saving members in reuse library part families using Teamcenter/NX 7.5

I was given a task to go into the reuse library, make a family member 'Model Write Access' in order to modify the part in NX 7.5, hide all its datum planes, show fit iso view and save it so that when you open its proper file in NX you see the preview picture instead of the basic NX icon. Each time I get a saving error the records 'The following parts failed to save causing the overall save operation to fail: While saving 8236501:A:2: - Family member parts may not be saved.' In the end it is still not saving properly where I can see the part in preview correctly.

Can anyone help me? I've been researching part families and reading a bunch of other forums and no answer yet.

The way it works is , open the family master and there hide the datums etc. Then open the spreadsheet and save the members from the spreadsheet.
You cannot save the individual members one by one by open and save.
One reason for this is is that when you update from the spreadsheet, NX will not update the existing file but save a new copy to disk and overwrite the existing file. Any changes made in the children would then be removed.

The children parts will be "clones" of the template and thereby inherit any changes made to the template.

So let's say I go through the process of changing the parent and then updating the spreadsheet. Would the preview picture in each of the members be they're own picture or would they all look like the image from the parent?
