Is there a character limit in the part filenames for NX? I believe there is when using NX manager/Teamcenter, but what about native?

If you're working in Native under Window and starting up trying to wrangle the file system to suit your needs then you might also look into using the CREATOR/OWNER Permission to your shared working folders. Working with versioning rules and this in place works to impose a kind of discipline that may work in your favour. This is why I chose to use the military versioning system in order to institute the use of major and minor revisions part123.001.1 where 001 is the releasing rev and .1 is the latest working change. Instead of writing over one another we worked in a shared folder and incremented the minor rev until such time as we were ready to actually release at the next major level. This also superceeded the need to search users home directories thus making the whole system simpler, quicker and a lot better disciplined. Which is abouit the best that you can hope for in Native.

I don't suppose that the work part header information that is tied to the File Description in the ANT is also accessable as one of the attributes that can be linked to a parts list in Drafting, is it?

Not without first copying the header data into an Attribute, of which there is NO way to do that automatically in NX (at least not at the moment).
