Check Valve and Strainer Requirements

Newbie Here...

We have a Check Valve and a Strainer for our Cooling Tower deluge system that need replaced. My maintenance group purchased some off of McMaster. My question is if there is any "certification" for these items that they have to have before being placed into a Fire Protection System. I was looking at NFPA 13 Sections 7.3 and 6.7 but neither of them had any requirements listed in there. This is my first time really dealing with Fire Protection so any direction would be appreciated and sorry if the I have terminology mistakes in my question.

The check has to be listed

Where is the strainer located?? Been long time since doing a deluge

Is it part of a fire pump assembly

Buy something listed by "UL" or "FM" for inclusion into a Fire Protection system.

The Strainer and Check Valve are for the Control Air supply to the Deluge Valve Actuator.

Another Question just because I am such a newbie here. When NFPA says "listed" is that just UL or FM or is there other certifications it can have?

NFPA 13-2013 3.2.3 Listed. Equipment, materials, or services included in a list published by an organization that is acceptable to the authority having jurisdiction and concerned with evaluation of products or services, that maintains periodic inspection of production of listed equipment or materials or periodic evaluation of services, and whose listing states that either the equipment,material, or service meets appropriate designated standards or has been tested and found suitable for a specified purpose.

A3.2.3 Listed. The means for identifying listed equipment may vary for each organization concerned with product evaluation;some organizations do not recognize equipment as listed unless it is also labeled. The authority having jurisdiction should utilize the system employed by the listing organization to identify a listed product.

Best advice is have a fire sprinkler company do the work.

Especially for deluge, just a few things that can go wrong

Ask the AHJ first before buying anything that is not UL or FM listed, but is listed by some other agency. Will bet a paycheck that the answer will ne "no". And you probably will not get a definitive answer from the AHJ [they have to behave in a politically acceptable manner] on what, in general, is acceptable. Just like NFPA leaves it open; but the only regularly recognized and accepted agencies are UL and FM. They just won't come out and say that.
