Check Valve Certification

Just to start off...I am not an engineer. I am a Safety Guy. I've been given this task because I am computer literate...

I have been asked to find out how to go about getting a check valve certified.
Our Equipment Manager says he is having a hard time finding a specific type of check valve...but has found a local company that says they can make them for us.
The question is...how do we (rather they) go about certifying the check valve?
Can they perform an in-house test and document it...or are there other steps (and presumably outside entities) involved?

First I would like to find out about what kind of check valve you are talking about. Is it oil, air, water? What pressure range is it working at? What longevity is it suppose to function at?

You need someone with some engineering skills to review what you actually need.

It will contain a mixture of water, hydrochloric acid, and other additives.

The working pressure will be in the vicinity of 1500 PSI.

I'm not sure about the longevity question.

The person we have in mind to manufacture this item has the engineering skills (They have built specialty components for other companies and were highly recommended). The issue is that this would be their first check valve, and they wanted to know what kind of certification they would need to supply with the valve.

I've done a bit of research since posting my question, and I believe API 594 is a good start.

If they make the valve according to SPI 594 specs, do they (simply?) generate a document stating the item was build to code?

So, you don't have any computer literate engineers?
Then, you don't have any engineers at all.....

What are you making, where will it be, and how do I go about avoiding this system of yours?

charlie's point is this. check valve must be made to specifications. & operating constraints.
consult a specialist to obtain the correct data. The check valve company's engineers is a good start.
