Hello all,

I am trying to get a volume of 12.5% sodium hypo based on different diluted solutions (as shown below). The 12.5% volume (gallons) needed was calculated based on the dilution (%) times diluted volume (gallons) divided by 12.5%. My question is, why the 12.5% volume needed are the same for all cases?

Diluted Sodium Solution 1% 5% 10% 12.5%
Volume needed 3 0.6 0.3 0.24 gal
12.5% Volume needed 0.24 0.24 0.24 0.24 gal

Best,
S

Your math is wrong as I read this.
You need 0.6gal of a 1% solution, 0.6 * 0.001 = 0.006gal of hypo.
So 0.006/12.5% = 0.048 gal of your 12.05% solution.
maybe I am wrong but your formatting makes it difficult.

It looks like they are showing that

[pre]to make 1% solution, use 0.24 gallons of 12.5% and fill remainder to get to 3.00 gallons. (3-.24 gallons added water)
to make 12.5% solution, use 0.24 gallons of 12.5% and fill remainder to get to 0.24 gallons. (0 added water)[/pre]

The same volume may be used because that is the container size of the 12.5% solution.

It doesn't appear to correspond to any other even measure - it's 0.908 Liters and 55.44 cubic inches and 30.72 fluid ounces.
