Chemical Film RoHS Compliant

I am being asked to investigate yellow Alodine versus Chemical Film RoHS compliant. My understanding is that yellow Alodine contains hexavalent chromium, and is therefore, not RoHS compliant.

I just asked our metal finisher about dyeing the RoHS compliant finish, and he tells me that it is not yet possible.

Is anyone aware of a conductive, coloured RoHS compliant chemical film?

What sort of a future does hexavalent chromium chemical film have? Any?

Yes there are plenty of "yellowish" trivalent conversion coatings/chem films/dyes out there..
Sounds like you need a new plater..
Any reason a "colorless" conversion coating is out of the question?

I am being told that my RoHS compliant chemical films are too shiny. They want yellow Alodine.

Call Henkel and discuss your options with their technical support.
Alodine is a Henkel product. They will know best.

drawoh, we checked on this again just a couple of weeks ago with our platers and they claimed there wasn't yet a 'gold' ROHS version available.

mcgyvr - any chance you can give some examples of ROHS complian yellowish chem films?

We sub out our machining, and many of them then sub out the plating/treatment so we're several steps away from the actual plating. Every time I've investigated it over the last few years I haven't been able to find definite evidence of yellow/gold ROHS compliant chem film.

Likely not within your price range, but you could plate it with actual gold to achieve a gold-colored ROHS compliant film.
