Chemical welds

Just a quick query: are there any chemical weld processes for joining steel to steel, and are they better than using adhesives?

The only "chemical" welding that I know about is called Thermit(e) welding, but I doubt that it is what you are looking for. Its most common use is (or was) welding railroad tracks together.
