Guys,

Could anyone please suggest the most appropriate material for chemistry lab exhaust (including fume hood exhaust ducts)? SS 304 seems a safe bet.Has any one used galvanised iron(GI) duct work for lab exhaust without any problems?
Thanks for any helpful input.

Dear SAK9

The appropriate material for a lab exhaust duct depends upon the stuff being used in the fume hood. 304 SS is good for a variety of chemicals and 316L is better, but if there will be HCL or Nitric Acids you should look at the Fiberglass ducts. There are fire code requirements associated with the fume exhaust so check with NFPA 316 and industrial exhaust systems codes.
