I want to rough out a boss on a part, I can manually program the 3 axis move with G02 or G03 & X, Y & Z move and it works fine. . . I cant get NX to do this? ? ? the work around I did was create a helix and told the tool path to follow this, but its giving me points verses circular moves.

If it is a true helix, the system should output helix records, and the post should output helical moves.

Mark,
This is sort of true...

You need to check 2 things first;

1. Within the operation, expand the MACHINE CONTROL dialog. Check that the "motion output" is set to "circular Perp to TA"

2. Your post must contain the custom command "PB_CMD_init_helix"

with those 2 things verified, then yes, a true helix will output with G02's and G03's.

It's tricky to get NX to output a helix. I think most of us aerospace programers have just gotten use to the thousands and thousands of tiny XYZ moves. Modern controllers have no issues with this type of program.

Also, this can only be done as an engage through that dialogue. It is not a true cut move.and it is a bit tricky to get to dorp the proper amount in the z.

"I think most of us aerospace programers have just gotten use to the thousands and thousands of tiny XYZ moves."

You got that right. My largest projects this year require using third party posts that are setup (or not really setup) to except no circle records at all except for the failsafe pin moves. Someday...

Thanks, I guess I wasn't that far off then, points it is.

I used points, I was roughing out a boss and it did the job. A LONG program but it worked.

Really all you should have needed to do is imported (only imported) the custom commands included in PB_CMD_init_helix and then set your engage to helical and set your parameters correctly (which if you got cordal helical output you must have set correctly) and at minimum you should get circular output. This includes in machine control/ motiion output circular perp to ta if I remember correctly.
