Can anybody recommend a good Civil Engineering Dictionary? I hear it again and again that it's good idea to have one during the PE test.
Thanks a lot.

After four years of work never saw anything I didn't understand. They tend to stay away from acronyms except maybe very basic ones like plf or psf or mph.

If you don't know those - you are in trouble......

I have an old reference:
Glossary of Water and Wastewater Control Engineering, published jointly by, ASCE, APHA, AWWA and WPCF in 1969.

Have you tried Googling (verb) for a newer similar book ?

good luck

For MiketheEngineer:
For what I hear, some (maybe 1-2) questions can be answered straight out of their definition, which is much easier to find it in a dictionary than to keep looking through the reference book...so people say.
Thanks.

For RWF7437:
That might sound good for the water resources portion, but I am looking for a more comprehensive on with all 4 major topcs covered by Civip PE.
Thanks.

I've seen the Jean Paul Kurtz dictinary too @Amazon, but I wanted to get some opinions from people who might have used such dictionary. This particular one is a translation from French and some things might be 'lost in traslation', if you know hat I mean.
Thanks.

The one I got, Dictionary of Engineering, 2nd ed. from McGraw Hill, has gathered dust since I bought it. I found it to be relatively useless for civil-related definitions (seems slanted to ME/EE). I brought it with me to the PE exam, but never opened it. Yes, there are some straight up definitions, but I would suggest knowing the indexes of your reference books and go at it that way, rather than a dictionary.

"Dictionary of Civil Engineering, 4th Edition" by John S. Scott is on my bookshelf. It came recommended to me and I have not been disappointed with it.

It never occurred to me to wish for an engineering dictionary during the Civil PE exam.

Your mileage may vary.

In my opinion it doesn't have to be a civil engineering dictionary. Any good new dictionary should do the trick for the one or two questions you may be able to use it on.
