Good Morning,

My customer has a clay soil and having (of course) drainage issues, he wants to solve it but he doesn't want to install pipe system! Do you know any possible alternative solution?
Thanks

You have not given us enough information to help you. There are many ways to drain clayey soils but there can be significant repercussion to doing so. You need to know the soil profile...how thick is the clay layer? What is the character of the clay? Is it expansive? Is it underconsolidated or overconsolidated? Is it organic? What is below it? Where is the water table? What type of structure is on it? What happens to the structure when you dessicate the clay? What happens if subsequent rainfall rewets the clay?

Please provide more information if you want logical offerings of assistance.

Without giving exact location, it would help if the general area, such as country and maybe city area is provided.. Some areas are known for their soil problems and thus experience of our readers sometimes can jump in and help on these matters.

It's a place with 15 m clay, clay overconsolidated slightly. it will be a pedestrian path. Rainfall is around 60 mm / day

What has been tried and found to fail? Describe surface drainage, such as "this is in a flat area, etc". Edit: For a true clay(high in fines), don't expect any use of subdrainge to do anything. Water holding ability likely is very strong. Think about a base course to "bridge" the weak stuff.

If the owner only interested in solving the problem at the pedestrian walkway, then I think shallow surface soil improvement, in conjunction with a well designed surface water control system, should suffice.

You can’t infiltrate into clay so your only solution is pipes connected to a storm water system

surface drainage can be handled without pipes, but without any information on what the "drainage issues" actually are, can't give much of a response

elmit...that rainfall is unbelievable. That would be over 21000mm (over 800 inches). Don't know of any place in the world with that amount of rainfall.

Perhaps a surface drainage swale on either side of the walkway and direct to a retention/detention facility?
