We are preparing SOPs for isolating Ammonia Injection Pumps (10% Aqueous Ammonia) prior to maintenance. The vendor has instructed that before maintenance of the wet side / regeant head of the pump: "flush pump thoroughly with a neutralizing liquid. Wear protective clothing and handle equipment with proper care." Is it sufficient to drain the system and flush with demineralized water for a few minutes? OR should a special chemical solution be prepared? Any information or direction would be appreciated.
