Cleating PFC beams onto columns

Hello

I have two 90x90 square hollow section columns.

I need to cleat a 300x90 PFC beam between the columns, however I need the flanges of the PFC to be flush with the column face.

This means it's impossible for me to cleat the PFC to the centre of the column. I need to offset the cleat connection onto the column by 74mm (PFC web is 16mm thick). This means the PFC will be cleated onto the column, 16mm in from the edge of column.

The PFC is holding the upper storey of a residential home.

Is this acceptable? I cannot find any typical connection details for this in any Australian Standard. Does anyone have any material with these types of standard connections?

I should note that a 300PFC doesn't have a 8mm web and a 16mm flange. Not having your cleat connection central can often be a benefit for connections to hollow section. There is nothing wrong with the connection you propose. Though you should do your due diligence regarding the connection capacity and and column lateral restraints etc.

You can find design checks for most standard connections in the ASI guides. They are not available online.
