Hi everyone,

Since this is my first post I'll use it to introduce myself. My name is Ron Post. I am a design analyst with Kohler Engine division located in Kohler, WI. I have over 20 years experience in Unigraphics and small engine design.

My question is in regards to a Sketch issue (NX4).
Is there a way to close a partial arc to make a complete arc (circle) in Sketch? I am able to close the arc using edit curve from the Sketch mode but am unable to constrain the end point(s).

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Ron

Being a closed curve, I do not believe circles have endpoints, per se, in NX...at least that you could actually utilize for constraints.

If all else fails, create 2 arcs that have concentric centers and equal radii.

Go to...

Edit -> Curve -> All...

...and toggle the 'Edit Arc/Circle By' option to 'Dragging'. Now with the dialog open, select one of the 'raw' ends of the arc and drag it down until it touches the other end (if you go too far the arc will almost disappear). Once closed, it should stay that way.

Thanks for your reply. While this does close the arc, it still leaves the "end point" with no constraint, and no way to constrain it without additional geometry.

That may be true for NX 4, but starting with NX 5, forcing the arc to close using the procedure I described above, will cause the system to make the 'circle' periodic, that is, with no start or end, just as if I had created it as a complete circle in the first place.

Thanks John.

Moving to NX6 soon so this should no longer be an issue.
