Closely spaced columns with invert T-shape stiffeners 1

Hello All,
I was at a recent site visit and noticed closed spaced steel columns that appear to have inverted T-shape stiffeners near the bottom of the column. Please see attached pic, any ideas as to why this was done?

My guess is to protect them from fork lift damage. Is that a loading dock?

My guess is they were a seat to jack against, to preload the column and supporting structure below during install.
