Does anyone have experience using fillcrete in place of backfill? What amount of shrinkage is typical and over what time period? Doing a project and I may have been overly conservative in my guidelines with the contractor

I have used a lean cement-sand mix for backfill. We use minimum cement content, usually less than a sack per yard so it remains digable, and I haven't seen any shrinkage. I have never seen any cracks in the big chunks (2~4 c.y.) that we've poured.

It's going to shrink a heck of a lot less than compacted backfill.
