Dear All,

I need some help about how to choose appropriate coating for a particular application. I think I must be considered two parameters, corrosion and wear condition. actually for wear resistance i have no idea how to correlate wear condition with wear properties of coating. For example in particular environment how to choose a coating from data such as wear data test or hardness of coating. i would be grateful if someone could help me or introduce me some reference.

There are many polyurethane and polyurea coatings that give good corrosion and wear resistance. Can you provide a little more detail about the material and the environment.

What you should also be stating is that you want this coating to protect a centrifugal pump rotor in glycol service. You have asked this question on the NACE forum and received sufficient answers to assist you there. Most of which were saying coating is not a realistic option!

thanks for your nice suggestion, you know i little confused how to correlate material properties with application in specified media. maybe i need more experience ive just started my career

Something from the corrosion forum on LinkedIn

"There are probaably a lot more concerns at your plant about the chemistry of the water than worrying about the pump impeller, so rather than change the chemistry of the water, use a good, not cheap, coating on the impeller and not worry about it.

You should also consider that impellers do see cavitation, abrasion from solid entrainment, galvanic corrosion and other forces. So when you choose a coating look at all of these factors. I have been in this field for over thirty years and have repaired and coated pumps in every situation you can imagine and done it all over the world. This is your most practical solution.

Yes I do happen to manufacture coatings for pumps. We would llike to think that ours are the most advanced coatings on the market and priced fairly, but there are others available also. If you would like some information on my products, Arcor Epoxy Coatings and some educational material on how to choose a coating, please let me know."

dear Sjones
thanks a lot, actually i look for epoxy coating but i don't live in America and im afraid you don't have any distributor in other country.however i would appreciate to let me have some educational material on how to choose a coating

Nalco has a very good set of books related to corrosion and the water environment. (Boilers etc). These books are available electronically for members of professional engineering institutions. Join ASME, IMechE Engineers Australia or your local body and get access to the library.
