Coaxial_pockets_2_h6ibaq.jpg

Hi,

Regarding my attached sketch,

I have made Datum A ( the mid plane between the two end faces)

The two pocket feature that determine Datum feature B , has 2X position tolerance to |A| this should establish a pair of tolerance zones at 0 basic location relative to each other and 90deg basic orientation to A.

My question is when i checking the pockets axis falls within the oriented and located tolerance zone that has been created .

Is it just the length of the pocket that has to fall within ?

or do you have extend pocket axis to when it meets ( A )

See the sketch for my interpretation. Top one is just the length of the cylinder bottom is the axis error projected to ( A )

Thanks

Ross

Ross, I guess you are missing some fundamental things and basic concepts within GDT.
- missing diametric symbol.
- it's not the length of the pocket but rather the depth of it.

There are two TZ's perfectly located to each other and perfectly perpendicular to datum A (middle plane) and the length of the TZ is the actual depth of the pocket. Each TZ has its own length depending of the depth of the actual pocket.

yes i forgot the Ø symbol.

perfect so the position of the axis of the pockets only has to be in the tolerance zone the full depth of the pocket feature itself ?

Thanks

Ross,

See Y14.5-2009 section 1.4(n) of Fundamental Rules (Y14.5-2018 section 4.1(o) ):

"Unless otherwise specified, all tolerances apply for full depth, length, and width of the feature."
