Codes (British Standards to US Standards) 1

Hi Everyone,

Am converting tank datasheets with British Codes and Standards to US. Please see below.

- BS EN 13280 : 2001 (Category B sectional tank)
- BS EN 13280 paragraph 7.4.1.3
- BS EN 13280 paragraph 7.5.1 - Leak Test
- BS EN 13280 paragraph 7.5.2 - Deformation Test
- BS EN 13280 paragraph 8.2.1 - Rigidity Test
- BS EN 10088-3:1995
- BS EN 10025-1 & 2 :2004
- BS EN ISO 1461:2009


Main concern is the equivalent US standards and Codes to these BS EN Standards. Am quite new to these things so any help coming from you guys would be much appreciatted.

If there are also references you could share in concern to this topic, would be great.

As a question, are you simply converting the sheets for records or is there an actual tank or tanks that you are trying to get certified via US codes. If the later is true you should make sure that the US code will allow this. At the company I work at, we tried a similar thing to have a US tank converted to Canadian codes and the transport canada board would not allow it as well as the US department of transportation.

First of all, this is a copy project made in Europe and now to be erected in US. I have datasheet already made and was told to convert this standards to the US's.The datasheet's code is obviously BS EN 13280 : 2001. What I have found out is that this code is equivalent to ASME RTP-1 and ASME code section X, Am I right? The material on the datasheet is mainly of GRP.

The bidders are US based so there's no problem about certifying it since I believe they are following the local codes. But since this is a copy project I have to make sure that the datasheet would still has its equivalent to US.

Moreover, I am concern on how I could convert the datasheet's engineering notes (which tells about tests - leak, deformation, rigidity based on the code of BS EN 13280) to the US Codes (which obviously US code could allow it).

I browse and find about these tests in the ASME RTP-1 but haven't found anything equivalent.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. Appreciate your help.

I am not familiar with the BS EN 13280:2001, ASME RTP-1, or ASME code section X codes. In terms of converting the engineering notes I would simply look at each test and find the closest possible similar test in either one of the ASME codes. From the experience I have had with codes, quite a few of them can be interpreted quite differently and as such it is difficult to find one single on that fits the bill exactly. Unless you have a lot of experience with the various codes I would also suggest getting a certified individual involved in this matter to help oversee and support any judgement calls that you will undoubtedly have to make when matching the closest sections of each code.

I am sorry I couldn't be of more help but as I am still very much learning I would appreciate hearing back from you in terms of what you ended up finding as the best solution.
 
Sure thing PaulV7427! I'll tell you once I get this thing done.

Basically I am using the ASME RTP-1 (RTP Corrosion-Resistant Equipment)as the main code basis as well as the PIP VESFG001 (Fiberglass Tank & Vessel Spec.) You're right, I should look at the closest possible equivalent test. Upon reading the ASME RTP code, paragraphs 6-910 till 6-950 tell me about tests such as resin cure test,hydrostatic, etc., this might probably be the closest tests I am looking for.

Anyway, do you have any idea about this material - BS 1506 630 790? I tried googling this material but unfortunately I haven't found any concrete result. Would be great hearing this from you again.
