Hi,

I am designing a 6" x 1.5" cold-formed angle in bending with 6" leg in compression and 1.5" leg in tension. The leg in compression is not fully effective. Only 2.2" is roughly effective. I am using AISI equation Mn= Se Fy to get the Moment capacity. While calculating the effective section modulus Se=Ixe/yc I am using Ixe as effective Second moment of area. Should yc be based on gross gross section or the effective cross section.

Thank you.

Regards.

Since Ixe is the effective moment of inertia, then Yc should be based on the effective X-section.
