Hi,

I am actually designing a cold formed portal frame of 22,5 m span , i wonder if i need strap bracing between frames to ensure the lateral stability of building and avoid local buckling of chords?

thanks

Islem.

You're going to need to provide much more information including intended loading and a sketch showing geometry.

That seems like a big span for a LG portal frame. I think if you are asking these questions, you might want to get someone more familiar with Light Gage framing to help you.

In this case that the top chord is maintained by purlins ,in the other side the button chord is free .
Purlins used to act as permanent bracing shall be adequately attached to the top and bottom chords and to a diagonal brace or diaphragm. Purlin spacing shall be considered in determining the design buckling strength of the top chord.
