Someone used a drawing view with certain faces shown in a specific color to indicate a masked surface in the powder coating process (e.g. the part is mostly grey and a couple of faces are green). I've never seen that done, and I know it isn't best practice, as someone could have a B&W printer, colorblindness, etc, but is there a standard violated by using color as an indicator? There are other ways to do it, which I explained, but I don't have any hard evidence and they aren't taking me at my word.

I don't know any Code or Standard forbid to use color drawing on the design work. Instead, the color may improve and enhance the work to be shown on the paper. It's an evolution of the industry and technology in term of the popularity of the CAD program and color printer.

We always used cross hatching or shading so that color didn't matter.
