I am a first time user of FEA, which i need for a odd shaped transfer slab.

I am using Robot 20.1

Question is what is the best model for the column slab connection. I have done both with very differant results

1. fixed point connection

2. modeled column with base pinned connection.

Previously I would take 50% of the frame column strip moment into the column, should i follow this practice.

any advise or good referance material appricated

I'm usually using ur 2nd way may be model the top & bottom columns if it is the case. Some ppl taking only 25% of the strip moment to the columns, u can check the columns bending after the analysis and u can change the column stiffness when u define the column section.

robot is an excellent software specially for flat plat ( just be sure ur input r correct). u can use it also for design , long term deflection, punching shear, he always gives a reliable results.
