Hi all,
Working on a rock bolt design and am given the liberty to draft up a procedure for future use. I'm checking the combined shear/tensile loading condition using the equation ((Fs/fs)^2+(Ft/ft)^2)^0.5 <= 1.0 [F=force, f = factored resistance). Could someone break down the mechanics of materials here? I'm assuming the above equation can be related to a Mohr Circle/Von Mises type criterion but I'm having a hard time breaking it down to its roots.
Thanks in Advance.
