Commissioning a mechanical seal skid

Hi

I am trying to find background information on commissioning a mechanical seal skid for a centrifugal pump. Vendor will perform start-up of system.

Medium in seal skid is meg/water. What checks should be done to verify the mechanical seal skid?

Check fluid fluid cleanliness? NAS/ISO standard?
Verify leakage rates? (DPM)

Other steps I may have missed?

What type of skid you are talking about?
Is it the Barrier fluid make-up skid and what Flushing Plan are you using?
Basic checks are, inter face piping connection, cooling system, instrumentation function and settings, accumulator pre-charge pressure.

It all depends on how complex is your system.

If it is a plan 52 then there is not much to check other than documentation and static leakage of joints. It also depends on whether you are checking the instrumentation calibration and set points. Plan 53A is similar to Plan 52 but this is pressurized with N2. Plan 53B is using accumulators which requires for you to check the N2 recharge pressures and if you have a make up unit attached then run the pumps after simulating a seal leak. With Plan53B you can check the working volumes and safety volumes after the accumulator has been charged and filled with barrier fluid by collecting the barrier fluid and measuring the volumes and corresponding pressures.

Since First Star-up is related to Warranty issue is a new mechanical seals and pumps,and varies pump to pump.
-First step,
Contact Supplier, Vendor, Manufacturer for Warranty terms and star-up assistance.
-Second step
Gathering all data:
Mechanical seal drawing. Check type seal, manufacturer, conexions, etc.
API/ANSI Lubrication plan drawing and BOM.
Pump, coupling and driver data, if there is any previous performance, hydrostatic, vibration, etc test done by manufacturer, etc.
Motor/Pump/Mech seal operation, maintenance manuals.
-Third step.
Made a check list based on:
Vendor , supplier, manufacturer recommendations,
Standard availables like API610,676,682,RP686, ANSI or HI.
Internal check list or standar made by your own company.
Paper, i attached one published by Texas Pump simposium.
Pump type and services.
-Four step
Plan fist inspection, parameters expected on star-up(temperature, vibration, capacity, pressure, amperage, oil level, etc.
-Five step
Made a pre-commisioning check list and installation check list for main equipment and accesories before star up.

So my main question is about fluid and the cleanness of it as mentioned in the first post?
