Hello,

I´m new at this forum and I´ve a question about RSLogix5000
and the CompactLogix - Controller.
I´ve allready programmed a SLC5/03 with RSLogix500 but this
controller/software is complete new for me.
I´ve allready checked the homepage of rockwell-automation
but have nothing found for my main problems which are
-) how is the communication over the ethernet for example
to other IO´s programmed in the RSLogix.
-) also I need to know how i have to program the
communication over profibus

It will be great if you know where to find some informations
or programm samples.

Thanx

There is a programming manual, which is a good place to start if you haven't already done so.
It is publication 1756-PM001H-EN-P, and can be found here:

Ethernet communication is setup by first building the I/O configuration in the controller organizer window, of RSLogix.
If for example, you were setting up a remote I/O rack, you would first insert the ethernet module in the local rack configuration, add then add the ethernet module for the remote rack as a new module under the local module.
The remote I/O modules are then added under the remote ethernet module.
After the ethernet modules have been inserted you can edit the module properties to assign IP addresses.

The remaining problem is that when i open a new project,
i´m inserting my controller (1769-L30 - a 1769-L32E for
real) and then proceed with configurating the IO.
But when i want to add a module i can only choose 1769 -
modules. But my ethernet module is a 1734-AENT.
Do i have to update my RSL5k or something like that to
get that option?

You can only use 1769 modules in the local rack with the 1769-L32E.
If you need to use 1756 modules for example, then you have to add another 'remote' rack by adding a 1756-ENBT under the 1769-L32E Ethernet port.

Yeah, I know that so at my project I have it like that:
-) 1769-L32E Controller at the local rack with 1769 -
IO - modules
-) 1734-AENT modules at the ethernet port

... but i can´t add 1734-IB8´s / 1734-OB8´s to the
1734-AENT´s at the ethernet-port because i can´t
choose them when i´m going into the "add new module-
dialog"

Maybe this happens because i have a version of RSLogix5k
that is to old for this modules???
My actual version is V13.00.00

Right click on the 1734-AENT in your I/O configuration, and select Properties, make sure the Chassis Size is greater than 1, then add your I/O.

I see what you mean about the IB8's and OB's...

I tried a configuration using v13 and they are not on the list of modules to choose from.

I then tried it using v15, and they are on the list, so evidently, as you said, v13 doesn't support those modules.

Perhaps an upgrade to v15 is in your future. Otherwise it looks like you will have to use IB4's.
