Need to run a weld buttering procedure qual to Section IX in accordance with QW-283.4(b). This section states that I may use "any P-number material that nominally matches the chemical analysis of the buttering weld metal". The buttering weld metal is Inco 82 (ERNiCr-3). Has anyone done this before and what did you use for the base metal? Since the Inco 82 is an F43 can I just use any P43 base metal? Is that what is meant by nominal? If so I was considering using Inco 600. Or is there some particular min/max range I should be considering for each element of the chemical analysis?

There is an existing P5A boss that had been previously buttered with Inco 82 by another company. Now we are attaching a P8 nozzle to that butter with Inco 82. This is the reason for QW-283.4(b) being invoked. So I cannot run a PQR with P8 to Inco 82 base metal as Inco 82 base metal is not available. So I need to substitute a P43 (I am assuming) base metal in place of the Inco 82 for the PQR.
