Hello people, I have a question to use material. we bought some of CSA G40.2 50WT CAT4 to use lifting lug on steel structure and we have scrap from the original plate bar. the question is I would like to ask the 50WT can use as like SA516 70N?

No. The SA 516 is a pressure vessel quality steel plate that is designed for moderate to low temperature service. This means the steel is fine grained, weldable and possess good notch toughness. I looked up the CSA G40.2 50WT grade and this is a general quality structural steel which is not suitable for low temperature service. I did not even compare mechanical properties.

One additional clarification on my part, I just noticed in the Specification I reviewed the WT does indicate a low temperature and weldable grade of structural steel (used in bridges). However, I would not recommend using this for SA 516 Grade 70; pressure vessel quality does not equate to structural quality steel.
