Component Names

Question: If I want to change the component name of an individual component in a sub-assembly and then have this show up in the assembly navigator in the parent assembly of the subassembly(s), how would I do that?

I know this is possible because we currently have numerous parts that continue to utilize this. However, when a component is named in the sub-assembly the next level doesn't pick up the component name.

Example: I have a wire harness with connector ends "A" and "B". I want to put the component name on the component that is the connector as "A" or B". I then assemble this wire harness into an installation model with numerous other harnesses. I then assemble the installation model into a higher reference model to create the drawing from. I want the "A" to show up at all levels by placing the "A" on just the master part at the lowest level.

I believe I have solved my own dilemma. I was using the "Name" under the "General" tab of the properties dialog. Where I should have been using the "component name" under the "parameters" tab.

I will do some more testing to see if I am correct.
