Dear all,

I am using SOL 600 implicit nonlinear solver to simulate the progressive failure analysis of a multilayered composite laminate. And I used Puck failure criteria while defining material properties with gradual failure option selected. I am simulating the progressive failure analysis of a rectangular plate with a central hole under gradual tensile loading. The simulation runs correctly, but I have problem with fetching the required results. Since I am new to Patran / Nastran, I do not know how I can get results of first ply failure load and ultimate failure load of the laminate. Also I am not getting the load deflection curve as expected and I am just getting a straight line. So I request someone to help me with this. I need to know what kind of output results format and simulation parameters I have to use to get the desired results. I searched in tutorials but the materials for SOL 600 run composite progressive failure is very limited and I did not get enough information.

Thank you in advance.

You need to post-process the t16 file in Patran. In Patran, you can use XY-Plot in the Results tab to create load deflection curve.

Hello hezhj2000,

Thanks for your valuable reply. Yes, I found out that I need to process the t16 file and got the load deflection plot as well. Now I have got another doubt, How can I determine the exact first ply failure load and the ultimate failure load from the obtained results ?. Thanks.

Hello hezhj2000,

Thank you once again for the reply. I have a problem now in plotting the load displacement curve. I am not able to see "Constraint Forces, Translational" in the results eventhough I selected this in the output requests. I need to have this to plot the load deflection curve since I am using displacement controlled test case. Any idea how to get the "constraint forces, Translational" results in the SOL 600 run ?

Thanks,
Kumar

I don't use Sol 600. I usually just use Marc. So I don't know the answer. But you can probably try other types of forces, if they are available in the results.

Hello hezhj2000,

That's Ok. Thank you for your help.
