I have a roof structure shaped like an octoganol pyramid (8 sides coming to a single point in the center). Total clear span is to be about 200'. I am thinking of using steel joists/trusses come to the center, and sit on a compression ring.

Anyone got any tips on the design/analysis or know of any good references to look at?

Does not the presence of a "compression ring" in the center of the roof necessitate the presence of a "tension ring" at the outside - as with the now defunct Kingdome in Seattle? This was a concrete ribbed roof. I still have a portion (18" length) of one of the ribs #14 bars in my office. A lot heavier than a paperweight.
