Does anyone know what the applicable test standard is for subject?

ASTM B23 goes into some detail regarding specimen size and test limits without actually offering a standard for testing.

Any insights would be much appreciated.

Thanks salmon2. Any ideas why this standard isn't quoted in B23?

Sorry that I don't know B23 standard at all but just happen to know E9 is compression test for metal, just like E8 for tension test. Does it reference E8? understand for most ductile metal, compression strength is considered the same as tension strength.

kclim - if you want to find out why, contact the B02 Staff Manager at ASTM and ask them to put you in touch with the chair of subcommittee B02.02 - he (or she) should be the best person to ask. They may refer you to someone else within the subcommittee who has taken custody of that particular method.

I just checked, and for Committee B02, the staff manager at ASTM is Jeff Adkins - nice guy. Let Jeff know that you have a technical question about B23 and he should put you in touch with the sub chair.

Anytime an ASTM method is unclear or you have a "why" question, getting in touch with the appropriate technical subcommittee chair is the place to start. Generally, you go through the staff manager, as they have a phone number published on the ASTM website.
