I was reading a powerpoint presentation about site recon and it mention lookout for "concentration of cedar trees on a site with few other trees." Of course, i dont know who the presenter is so i cant ask him. Does anyone happen to know what does that indicate? I'm guessing it has something to do with groundwater?

Cedar trees tend to have shallow roots. This can often be an indicator of shallow bedrock. The cedar tree roots spread all over the interface of soil to bedrock, where the water is.

Yes, groundwater. Some wetlands are not always wet, but there are clues to look for when delineating wetlands. I don't remember all of the clues, but the type of vegetation is one. Cedars do well, better than most other species, in wet conditions. Other clues in my area (coastal SC) are Cyprus knees and buttressed trunks. The type soil is another guide. Considered together, the clues can be used to get a good idea of what areas should be studied more thoroughly.

It will depend on the area of the world where the project is located. Different areas, different conditions, result in different indicators for cedar trees. Lacking any other info, I agree with TigerGuy.
