Concrete honeycombing and bug holes

Does anyone know where I would find documentation regarding how much honeycombing and bug holes are allowed in a concrete wall before they are considered a defect that must be repaired? Reviewing the articles in the ACI Manual of Concrete Practice, they discussion why these types of blemishes occur and how to prevent them but not when these are considered defects.

In my experience this would be addressed in the project specs. You could try ACI 301 paragraph 5.3.3 and 5.3.7. It doesn't directly address your question, but it might be a starting point.

Another source is the 'position' statements by the ASCC (American Society of Concrete Contractors.

I always go with my initial impression. If it looks bad to me, then it is bad for th owner. I also second reading “position” statements by the American Society of Concrete Contractors

The good news is that I have been able to have the contractor repair most of these deficiencies without total removal.
