Concrete-Lined Pipe

We have a project in a water plant. There is existing piping with cement-moartar lined steel or ductile iron pipe. We have not found piping specs for the existing plant. The pipe is large-diameter, short pieces with lots of branches and fittings. 1.) Would you recommend that we continue with the same pipe? 2.) What other system woulld be appropriate to consider? 3.) Can this be fabricated and lined on site? 4.) How can we build piping specs for this new pipe?

Is your pipe internally or externally coated with concrete? If external (and also large diameter and shallow water table), it is for weight coating. If internal, it is for corrosion protection. If the pressure is low, no steel is required; go with concrete. If the pressure is high, consider non-concrete linings. Transition sections are available.

Internal cement lining is common for Ductile Iron pipe, especially in potable water duty. Alternatives are Stainless Steel, uPVC, Polypropylene depending on location and bore.

Cement mortar lined pipe is for corrosion/contamination protection. It is supplied so lined, I have not known it to be lined on site. There are two grades here, oprdinary portland cement lined, and sulphate resisting cement lined.

It's not civil engineers who design most water treatment plant nowadays...

in large dia cml pipe with posible man entry the lining can be knocked out and re-lined in-situ....unlined pipe can be cleaned and / or lined in- situ.....lining can be applied to new prior to welding , on site.
